This is so helpful Claire. After decades of repression, suppression and panic filled expression of anger, I realised reading your great article, that I want to work way more productively with my anger, which will have lots of advantages - esp that it will support my grieving process, and will stop the huge amount of stress blow-ups have on my nervous system (and every other biological system...)
I'm very fortunate to have a great psychologist who has helped me work with my cPTSD via EDMR and EFT, but I realised reading your article that I want to master 'urge surfing' esp in the middle of an intense urge to blow up...
I have learnt to urge surf at work (esp when running a workshop in front of a group and the technology fails... ). This is a good thing! I want to build on these experiences and see if I can expand the context to include urge surfing when I want to blow up in my personal life...
I ma so glad you found it helpful Susan! And it is so awesome that you have taken such a deep dive into working with your anger and understanding its connection to trauma. Surfing the urge feels like not scratching mosquito bites to me. SOOOO hard, And sometime you just give in and then you regret it.
Excellent!! Types of anger plus tools to work thru it or with it and understand it. Thanks!!
You are so welcome!
Agree with all but: taking a deep breath while your face is submerged.
Did I say that?? 🤣No don’t do that.
